We had hoped to spend the winter months as servers in the Keys. However, our plans changed when we were let go due to COVID-19. We decided to head back up north, hoping to find work along the way to pay for gas and lodging. When the Governor issued the stay in place order, we found ourselves in Delray Beach sleeping in our van, out of money, and wondering what to do next. Our saving grace was finding the Caring Kitchen van in the Delray Beach Public Library’s parking lot. The staff told us about a shower truck at a local church. With their help, we were also able to contact friends who sent us the cash we needed to get home.
My family and I travel the country setting up our booth at festivals and fairs. My husband and I have two small children. When all the fairs and festivals closed down due to COVID-19, we found ourselves out of work and lacking gas money to take our camper north. We are grateful for the To Go meals we receive through the Caring Kitchen program in the Delray Beach Public Library parking lot.
