Nutrition in a Knapsack
Nutrition in a Knapsack is designed to address chronic hunger among elementary-age children in public schools. It provides nutritious food to children who might not otherwise have adequate food over the weekend during the academic year. Each bag of food contains child-friendly, nutritious, shelf stable food for an average of two days (weekends). Program goals
1. To work with selected Title I schools (schools with at least 40% of students who are from families with low incomes) to identify children receiving free or reduced lunch who also meet the criteria of being chronically hungry or having food insecurity.
2. To provide nutritious food to eligible students who might not have adequate food over the weekend during the academic year.
